Red Cross Commemorates 31st Anniversary of its Martyrs
Under the patronage of the Lebanese Red Cross President Ms. Suzanne Oueiss, the Lebanese Red Cross commemorated the 31st anniversary of its martyrs under the slogan “A message for humanity and peace” at Saint Joseph School in Kornet Shehwan. The ceremony was attended by the Treasurer Mr Kossay Charafeddine who represented the president, a number of ambassadors, members of the executive and central committees, heads and directors of local committees, relatives of the martyrs, and representatives from each of the Middle East and North Africa regional office of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent operating in Lebanon. Representatives of the Saint Joseph School and a number of Lebanese Red Cross volunteers also attended the event.

The ceremony was opened by the national and LRC anthems, and a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs. Then there were speeches for both Ms. Marie Therese Kettaneh, head of the EMS center of Kornet Shehwan, and Mr. Charafeddine.

The ceremony included a theatrical show by actor George Khabbaz, the performance of the martyrs’ anthem by the Syncope band, and the broadcast of a short documentary about medics Peter Mouwad and Jonny al-Shidiac, who were victims of a car accident. They were each presented with a commemorative gift, Medals of Honor were also bestowed upon the relatives of the martyrs. The ceremony ended with a song marking the spirit of the occasion.
