Workshop about the cluster bombs and the unexploded bodies' problem
The Lebanese Red Cross organized, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, a workshop about the problem of mines, cluster bombs, and unexploded bodies. Volunteers from the Lebanese Red Cross Society, delegations from the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies, and the United Nations De-mining Center were among the participants of the workshop which was supervised by the Head of the Public Relations and Communications Department Mr. Ghaleb El Ayoubi.

The one day workshop included several seminars and lectures. The specialist of the International Committee, Mr. Srdjan Jovanovich presented the interference of the International Committee in the domain of mines and cluster bombs. He also lectured about the classifications of modern mechanisms and instruments to launch urgent and regular education campaigns on the topic. Miss Dalia Farran, the Chief of Press and the official spokesperson of the United Nations De-mining Center in South Lebanon, presented the interference of the United Nations in the process of mines' dismantling since 2000 and the cluster bombs' dismantling since July 2006 in South Lebanon.

The session coordinator from the Lebanese Red Cross, the lawyer Youssef Sfeir presented some presentations about the handling of this subject by the Lebanese Red Cross since 2000 and till 2004 through mines’ awareness program, which was stopped for the lack of funding. He also inserted the problem of cluster bombs within the LRC pledges list presented before the Council of Delegates held in November 2007, in Geneva.

The list approaches a resolution that bans the use of cluster bombs which will be signed in Oslo during late 2008. He also explained the correspondences addressed in this respect to the President of the Republic, the President of the Parliament and the Prime Minister in the intention of them to study and sign this resolution.
