On the occasion of the 8 of May the International day for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the Lebanese president General Michel Suleiman, received the president of the Lebanese Red Cross Sheikh Sami al-Dahdah, with a delegation from the Executive Committee, and the head of delegation of ICRC in Lebanon, George Comninos, where Dahdah informed the Lebanese President about the preparations for the launching of the annual fund raising campaign of the Lebanese Red Cross.
Also in this occasion, Dahdah and under the slogan "across Lebanon serving humanity, directed a message saying, that the whole world celebrates the anniversary of the founder of the Global Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the Swiss man Henri Dunant, who was born on 8 May 1828, and witnessed the Battle of Solferino in 1859, where his humanitarian feeling pushed him to volunteer in order to relief the victims and the injured.
Dahdah explained that the Lebanese Red Cross is trying, in all the ways, to be ready, present, and recruit all its energies and resources to support those in need. Also, he praised the efforts of volunteers and the six thousand workers who spreads in all the centers across Lebanon, and granted the accomplishments they have achieved in enabling the Lebanese Red Cross in the past year to provide about 483000 humanitarian services covering all the Lebanese regions in various fields.
It should be noted that the eighth of May is an International Day celebrated by more than 186 countries with more than 90 million volunteers.
