Celebrating and honoring the martyrs of the Red Cross
President Michel Suleiman, represented by the Minister Of State Mrs. Mona Afiesh, sponsored the twenty-sixth commemoration of the martyrs of the Lebanese Red cross, which was held on the stage of Saint Joseph School- Kornat Shawan.
This ceremony was attended by the President of the Lebanese Red Cross Sheikh Sami Al Dahadah, the president of the international committee of the Red Cross in Lebanon Georges Comninos, a delegation from the Office of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Lebanon, Local and National organizations, Official bodies, NGOs, and municipalities, members of Executive and Central Committee, heads and members of the Local Committees, and the parents of the martyrs and veteran and current medics from all over the Lebanese areas and friends of the society.
The ceremony began by the Lebanese national anthem and the Lebanese Red Cross anthem. After a minute of silence for the martyrs’ souls, Georges Abi Rashed, the responsible of Kornat Shahwan Center of the Emergency Medical technicians, made a welcoming speech and then was a word for Dahdah in which he said that the Lebanese Red Cross Society had lost 15 martyrs who were paramedics answered the call of those who need help, so they became martyrs of sinful hands which did not respect humanity and international conventions.
Then Afiesh made the speech of president Suleiman who sponsored the ceremony in which she said that the president’s patronage of the twenty-sixth memory of the Lebanese Red Cross Society martyrs is only a confirmation of the president’s appreciation and respect for the Lebanese Red Cross Society and the national role played by the volunteers in rescuing the needy during the darkest circumstances and securing their needs for blood and many social and humanitarian services.
The ceremony included play scenes and documentary films and then souvenirs were distributed on the martyrs’ families.
