Awareness
Traffic Safety: The Lebanese Red Cross regularly organizes training sessions on driving and safety regulations. The sessions, involves car drivers from different sections and the branches of the Society, organized by the Logistics and Equipment Section. The participants receive seminars, lectures, and information about reinforcing the image of the Society through safe driving, safety through using the emblem, basic maintenance in case of urgent damages, basic repairs, daily car examination, laws and rules, traffic signs, and techniques in the different driving conditions. The importance of such sessions is in elevating the level of responsibility and reinforcing information and skills.
HIV/Aids: The Lebanese Red Cross follows the issue of HIV/Aids through 3 departments: the Education, Youth, and Social Medical services. The 3 departments work on different programs including the awareness and prevention of the disease and its transmission. The education Dept. trains social workers on supporting HIV/Aids patients. The LRC Blood bank checks every blood unit to assure its safety. The LRC work on the issue is a part of the strategy of the International movement.
Environment: The Society’s volunteers, especially the Youth Department, organize various environmental campaigns which include tree-planting, tree-pruning, bushes and street cleaning in villages and cities, cleaning of rivers, riverbanks and sea shores. Also, camps are organized in all centers to promote the environmental awareness, in coordination with the municipalities and interested civil associations
Land Mines and Cluster Bombs: The Lebanese Red Cross regularly organizes workshops about the problem of mines, cluster bombs, and explosive bodies. The volunteers of the Lebanese Red Cross provide emergency and first aid services for organizations working in the de-mining process.
The handling of this subject by the Lebanese Red Cross started in 2000 till 2004 through the program of mines’ dangers which was frozen for the lack of funding. Yet the subject of cluster bombs lies within the Society obligations’ list presented before the Council of Delegates held in November 2007, the list seeks to persuade the government to sign a resolution that prevents the use of cluster bombs.
The resolution will be signed in Oslo during late 2008. The Lebanese Red Cross corresponded in this respect to the President of the Republic, the President of Parliament and the Prime Minister in the intention of persuading them to study and sign this resolution.
IHL: 1- Dissemination of the IHL:
- Disseminates values, principles and history of the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent and its components.
- Disseminates goals, work and activities of the Lebanese Red Cross
- Disseminates and explains the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) among the Lebanese community (Geneva conventions, its 2 additional protocols, and other international conventions related to humanitarian activities).
